Here at SRJ Windows, we offer a range of home enhancement services, including the building of garden rooms. Garden rooms are a beautiful addition to any home, offering a separate space that can be used for a variety of purposes, the most popular being home offices, games rooms and home cinemas. But of course, all of these usually require an internet connection, and one of the most common questions we get asked is “Will my new garden room have broadband?” Find out the answer to this question below.
Will my new garden room have broadband?
Usually, the simple answer to this question is no. Unless you have a very strong wifi connection that has wide-reaching broadband, or your garden room is very close to your home, the chances are that your garden room will not automatically have a broadband connection straight after it is installed. This is because broadband coverage is limited and can often not stretch into people’s gardens, especially when there are walls in the way.
How do I check if my garden room has broadband?
How can you be sure if your garden room has broadband? You can easily check yourself by taking a device that is connected to your internet router into the garden room. Does the internet connection drop out? If not, is the connection strong enough to do anything? Try a Google search or using social media and see if it works and how fast it is. Try this in different areas of the garden room to see if there’s a particular spot that has internet. Remember that using the garden room for things like streaming or gaming will require a strong connection, so if the connection is very slow, it will not be suitable.
How do I get broadband in my garden room?
You can solve this problem by investing in better broadband – do some research to find out if there is a faster, more wide-reaching package available that you would use for good value for money.
Or, your broadband provider may offer wifi boosters. These are smaller, additional routers that connect to your main router and boost the wifi connection wherever they are in the home. This would be ideal for a garden room if the wifi reaches it but is very slow and unreliable. These are often fairly cheap or may even be free depending on your broadband provider. You could also opt for an ethernet cable for a similar solution, but this involves the installation of wires which can be confusing and more expensive.
Consider calling up your broadband provider and explaining your problem, saying that you are considering switching providers because the broadband doesn’t reach your new garden room. They may offer you a cheap solution in an attempt to keep your custom.
